Story
Flight 19 refers to a training mission involving five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers of the United States Navy that mysteriously disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean on December 5, 1945.
On that day, fourteen airmen departed from the Naval Air Station in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a routine navigation exercise.
Shortly after the mission began, the flight leader reported navigation problems and stated that he could no longer determine his exact position.
Recorded radio communications reveal increasing confusion among the pilots.
Some reported malfunctioning compasses while others struggled to identify islands and landmarks below them.
As the hours passed, radio contact weakened and eventually disappeared completely.
None of the five aircraft were ever recovered despite one of the largest search operations of the era.
The mystery deepened when a Martin PBM Mariner rescue aircraft dispatched to search for Flight 19 also vanished shortly after takeoff, taking its thirteen crew members with it.
Despite official investigations, no definitive explanation has ever established what truly happened to Flight 19.
The incident became one of the most famous cases associated with the Bermuda Triangle and continues to inspire countless theories.
